My name is Daniel Schilling. My day job involves work in the chemical production industry. In 2006 I graduated Cum Laude from Hillsdale College with a Bachelor of Science in English and a minor in Chemistry. I am a fan of Homer and have read three books of the Odyssey in the original Greek.

Hi! I’m a friend of Joey’s from London, Ireland, and Houghton, and I’ve read some of your poetry previously, and enjoyed it…but this is unexpectedly fantastic! I was truly impressed reading The SkyPath Crusade (and have yet to finish it, honestly)…good stuff, and incredibly inventive and, consequently, entertaining. I mourn the fact that such a wonderful and creative art such as epic poetry has been, for the most part, lost to higher Western culture, both in its reading and its writing. Kudos for reviving a medium
Hope to meet you sometime, and have a Merry Christmas!
PS Congratulations to you and Katy!

Thanks for the comments. I think I remember hearing about you from my sister. I may have even seen you in the london pictures.

Mr. Schilling –
Haven’t tried to wade through this yet, but the idea is charming. Surely (“and don’t call me Shirley”) you’ve considered a more conventional prose version of this. This might be a good step away from all the Tolkien variations we still see in commercial fantasy novels.

Alas, I’d love to, but I don’t write very good prose. I’ve tried. Currently I’m trying a new twist on this in my other blog, Return of the Muse (link’s on the side bar). Instead of just writing it in prose, I’m writing an autobiography about a modern day college kid who discovers the skypath scrolls and eventually finds out about the Romans on Mars.

Hi… are your poems published anywhere? I am a teacher and would like to use “The Clinton Parade” for my classroom, but I can only use published literature. Thanks.

Jessica,
I’ll have to dissappoint you. None of my poetry is published, including the Hillary Parade, or whatever I used to call it.
Here’s a small update into what I have writtin/ am writing.
1. In college I wrote a 24 page epic poem about one of my friends who wished to restore the Byzantine empire. In this comic epic he conquers Turkey without a war.
2. The SkyPath Crusade, which is copyrighted.
3. The Hillary Parade, 2008. I never finished it. I am not sure if it is even posted on the web anymore.
4. The September 11th Epic poem. I started this on my 25th Birthday, June 24, 2008. It is currently 72% done (as of 8/29/09). My self-imposed deadline for the rough draft is 7/1/09. This poem is very different from the others. It is much more ambitious. It uses the same rhyme and meter pattern as the SkyPath Crusade, except that there are NO BREAKS in the use of internal rhyme. I am definately going to attempt to publish this one. I am hoping to have it published before the 10th anniversery of 9/11. It is based slightly on the documentary/live video provided by the Naudet brothers.
